These three metal letters were found by my father in woodlands very near to where I was born and grew up in Somerset.
My father placed the letters as REN on our garden fence and it became part of my childhood memories.
There are a variety of definitions for the term Ren, it has been translated as "goodness" or even "human-heartedness".
When asked, Confucius defined it by the ordinary Chinese word for love, ai, saying that it meant to "love others".
